Sarangkot Sunrise Tour
Sunrise over Dhaulagiri and the Annapurnas
Close view of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail)
Phewa Lake and Pokhara from above
Back at your hotel by mid-morning
Few sunrises in Nepal are as easy to reach or as memorable as the one from Sarangkot. This hilltop village sits at about 1,600 m on a ridge just north-west of Pokhara, directly facing a wall of Himalayan giants. On a clear morning you can see Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, the sharp fishtail summit of Machhapuchhre and the peaks beyond, all turning from grey to pink to gold as the sun comes up.
Our driver and guide collect you from your hotel in the dark, around an hour before sunrise, for a winding drive of 30 to 45 minutes up the hill. A short walk up steps brings you to the viewpoint in time to find a good spot. As the light grows, the mist lifts from the valley floor to reveal Phewa Lake and the city below.
After sunrise there is time for tea or breakfast at a café in the village and a short stroll past houses and fields before heading back down. You will be at your hotel by mid-morning, with the rest of the day free for sightseeing, a lake boat ride or simply a nap.
This is a gentle half-day outing for all ages, and one of the best ways to see the Annapurna range if you are not trekking.

FAQs
Answers to the questions travellers ask us most about this trip.
Which mountains can I see?
On a clear day the view includes Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Annapurna I, Machhapuchhre and other peaks of the Annapurna range, with Manaslu far to the east on very clear mornings.
What if it is cloudy?
Mountain views depend on the weather and cannot be guaranteed. October to December usually has the clearest skies. During the monsoon (June to August) the peaks are often hidden. If the forecast looks poor, we can move your tour to another morning where possible.
How much walking is involved?
Very little. The car drives most of the way, followed by a short walk up steps to the viewpoint.
Can I hike up instead of driving?
Yes. On request, your guide can lead you on foot, which takes about 1.5 to 2 hours from Pokhara and requires a much earlier start.
Can I combine this with paragliding?
Yes. Sarangkot is the main paragliding launch site above Pokhara. We can arrange a flight later the same morning for an additional fee.
