Poon Hill trek FAQs

Planning the Poon Hill trek, from permits to the sunrise climb.

Ask our team
01

How high is Poon Hill?

Poon Hill stands at 3,210 m. The highest overnight stop is Ghorepani at around 2,860 m, so altitude sickness is rarely a problem on this trek, though you may feel slightly breathless on the climb.
02

Is the Poon Hill trek suitable for beginners and children?

Yes, it is one of the best introductory treks in Nepal. Daily walks are around five to six hours, on well-maintained trails with comfortable teahouses. Children who are used to walking usually enjoy it, though the stone steps to Ulleri are tiring.
03

How long does the Poon Hill trek take?

Most itineraries take four to five days from Pokhara, including the drive to and from the trailhead. A three-day version is possible with jeep transfers, but it leaves little time to enjoy the villages.
04

Which permits do I need for Poon Hill?

Poon Hill is inside the Annapurna Conservation Area, so you need the ACAP permit and a TIMS card, both arranged by us in Pokhara. A small separate fee is paid at the Poon Hill viewpoint itself.
05

What if it is cloudy on sunrise morning?

Clouds do sometimes cover the peaks, especially in spring and the monsoon. Views often open up later in the morning, and much of the trek offers mountain panoramas, including from Tadapani and Ghandruk, so you rarely leave without seeing the Annapurnas.
