Langtang region FAQs
Permits, access and seasons for the Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda.
Ask our team
02
How do I get to the start of the Langtang trek?
Treks start at Syabrubesi, about 120 km north of Kathmandu. The drive takes seven to nine hours on a winding mountain road, by private jeep or local bus. Gosaikunda treks often start from Dhunche, on the same road.
03
How high does the Langtang Valley trek go?
The highest overnight stop is usually Kyanjin Gompa at 3,870 m. Optional day climbs reach Kyanjin Ri at around 4,700 m or Tserko Ri at nearly 5,000 m. Gosaikunda lake sits at about 4,380 m.
04
Is Langtang safe after the 2015 earthquake?
Yes. Trails, bridges and lodges have been rebuilt, and the valley has welcomed trekkers again for many years. As in any mountain area, landslides can affect the road during the monsoon, which is why we avoid running Langtang treks in July and August.
05
When is the best time to trek in Langtang?
October and November offer clear views, and March to May brings rhododendron blossom in the lower forests. Winter treks to Kyanjin Gompa are possible but cold, while Gosaikunda is often snowbound from December to March.
06
Is Langtang good for a first Himalayan trek?
Very much so. It reaches genuine high-mountain scenery in a week, with moderate daily distances and no high pass. You should still be comfortable walking five to six hours a day on uneven trails.
